18. What it the partnership between Santa Clara University and the Santa Clara Soccer Academy?
1. Is there a commuter option for the residential soccer camps?
There is only a commuter option for the Advance Residential camp for 9-13 year olds. All other residential camps do not have a commuter option and players must stay on the campus. Commuters do not receive a room in the residence hall and are provided lunch and dinner only.
2. What is the deposit required to reserve my spot in a camp?
A deposit of $50 for any day camp or $100 for any residential camp is required with each application to reserve the player's spot. This deposit is non-refundable. If you pay via credit card online, you can use the deposit option to only pay the deposit and make payments up to two weeks before the camps starts. At two weeks before the start of the camp your balance will be AUTO DEDUCTED for your credit card.
3. When is full tuition due for camp?
Full tuition is due two weeks before camp begins. At two weeks before the start of the camp your balance will be AUTO DEDUCTED for your credit card, if possible. If you fail to pay the full tuition at this point, the player's spot can be released to the first person on the waiting list. No checks will be accepted within two week of the start of camp. If this looks like it will be a problem for whatever reason, you will need to call us.
4. What is the cancellation policy?
All cancellations will result in forfeiture of the deposit. Cancellations from camp within one week of the camp start date will result in forfeiture of entire camp tuition.
5. What is the key deposit and how much is it?
A $100 key deposit will be required of all residential campers. This is a SEPARATE check to your tuition payments that we will hold on file. We must have this check before we will issue the camper a key. Once the camper returns the key at the end of camp, we will return the key deposit. If you have multiple campers, please send a separate check for each camper. The key deposit is used to pay a locksmith to re-key the door as it is a security risk once the keys are lost.
6. What are the accommodations during the residential camp?
Players will be housed TWO to a room in the university residence halls. The players are under supervision of coaches and counselors who stay in the dorms as well. If you have a roommate preference, please indicate his name on your application. We can room groups larger than 2 close together, but not in the same room as it is a fire hazard. Each player needs to bring their own sleeping bag or sheets and towels. No linen service is provided. No non-staff adults are allowed in the residence halls after check-in.
7. Is there any transportation offered to help get players to camp?
The university is located 5 minutes from San Jose Airport (SJC) and 2 minutes from the CalTrain depot. We will pick up and return any player from the San Jose Airport or train depot with no extra charge. Please email us a note with travel information and the player's cell phone number if you need to be picked up. Transportation will only be provided on the first and last day of camp.
8. If flying the day before camp, does the University provide lodging?
The NCAA does not allow us to provide lodging before the camp begins. We are also not allowed to help with transportation to the university at this time. SJC has a #10 shuttle that transports people for free to the Cal Train station. The Cal Train station is located across the street from the entrance of the campus. Right next to this station is a Candlewood Suites that many campers have found very convenient for staying overnight the night before camp. I have listed this hotel and another that are the closest to the university.
Candlewood Suites 481 El Camino Real Santa Clara, CA 95050 408-241-9305
Days Inn 859 El Camino Real Santa Clara, CA 95050 408-244-2840
9. What is the medical release form, where can I find it and where do I send it?
The medical release form has important information for our medical staff about each camper. It is critical that we have complete information for the care of each athlete. The medical release form will be attached to the confirmation email that you receive when registering. This form must be in a week prior to the start of camp. Medical Release Form
Please send all materials to:
Santa Clara Soccer Academy SCU - Athletics Department
500 El Camino Real Santa Clara, CA 95053
10. What kind of insurance is needed?
All participants are required to have personal medical insurance. Secondary insurance is provided for reasonable hospital and medical expenses resulting from injuries at camp and covers up to $5,000.00. Expenses resulting from illness are the responsibility of the player's parent(s) or guardian(s). All claims must be reported within 60 days of occurrence. All medical bills must be submitted within 104 weeks from the date of occurrence. Medical aid will be provided by our trainer.
11. Who runs the camp?
The camp is run by the Santa Clara University Men's Soccer coaching staff. To help with instruction, we employ top level coaches that we have personally worked with in the past as well as current and former collegiate soccer players. Many SCU alumnus that we work with have gone on to play professionally or coach at a high level.
12. What should I bring to the Day Camp?
Campers attending day camp will need to bring a soccer ball and all required soccer equipment (ball, shin guards, athletic clothing with no pockets, socks, cleats, and water bottle.) A camp store is available to purchase sports drinks, candy and other items. Campers attending the all day sessions should have a lunch packed for them to eat during the break.
13. What should I bring to the Residential Camp?
Campers attending the residential camp will receive a soccer ball when they check in on the first day, so it is not necessary for them to bring their own. We do not provide linen services, so campers will need to bring a sleeping bag or bedding including a pillow and a towel. You should have clothes for playing soccer 3 times a day, and have all appropriate equipment (shin guards, athletic shorts, goalkeeper gloves, etc.) You cannot wear cleats in any of the buildings on campus (including the building we stay in), so campers will need to have a pair of sandals or flats to wear when not on the field. A camp store is available to purchase sports drinks, candy, late night pizza and other items.
14. What goes on during the lunch break at SCSA Day Camp?
Campers attending the all day sessions will stay at the complex in the shade and eat lunch. Our staff stays with the player during lunch time. Parents will need to send their children with a lunch and we can take care of the rest. The lunch break runs from 12:00pm to 1:30pm.
15. Can I stay and watch my camper?
Yes, parent's of day campers are welcome to stay and watch their camper but most do not, parent's of residential campers are invited to come watch evening 11v11 games and final day activities which include 6v6 tournament play and closing ceremonies.
16. Where are camps held?
All Day Camps and all Residential camps will be held on the beautiful Santa Clara University campus at 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95053. In 2011 the University embarked on a 4 million dollar field upgrade to Stanton, the Bronco's practice facility, and Bellomy, a newly turfed 4.7 acre multi-sport facility. SCU soccer fields are limited-use, lit, gated and surfaced with a high end artificial turf from Italy.
